RetroClinic – BeebZIF External ROM Socket for Model B and B+This is a Buy-It-Now sale for a new “BeebZIF” kit, designed for the Acorn BBC Micro Model B and B+ machines. It fits into the area commonly known as the “ash tray” to the left of the keyboard (see last photo), and allows you to easily switch out different ROMs in your system with the lid still attached, saving having to pry inside and under the keyboard each time you want to change one. The design is based on the original ZIF socket by Watford Electronics, but has been enhanced further. AS well as being compatible with the original 2764 and 27128 EPROMs, this version can also be used with 27256 and 27512 EPROMs, to give 2 and 4 ROM images per device respectively, by adding the additional cabling included with the kit. No soldering is required to fit this, and the upgrade cable. You can also modify the cable, so you can use the system with regular EPROMs, as well as a 62256 RAM chip, to give 2 banks of 16k Sideways RAM. This modification will require soldering one wire.Instructions on how to fit this are included with the kit. Note that some very early machines with the rough type case may either not have an ash tray area at all, or it may be too small, and may require expanding.
