With 17 jewels and a mechanical (manual) Swiss Unitas 6498 movement and a seconds hand, a 12-hour dial. This vintage piece was manufactured in Switzerland in the 1960s and is perfect for people who appreciate a classic and timeless style. The pocket watch is personalized with an engraved message inside the lid. If this is to be believed…. JEJ is Air Vice Marshal James Edgar Johnson nicknamed “Johnnie” CB, CBE, DSO & Two Bars, DFC & Bar, DL (9 March 1915 – 30 January 2001),, was an English Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot and flying ace who flew and fought flying Spitfires during the Second World War.J.E.J is said to have sent this watch to Sir Douglas Robert Steuart Bader, CBE, DSO & Bar, DFC as a “Rib Tickler”. Bader was shot down by friendly fire in 1941 in France, captured and spent the rest of the war in Colditz Castle, Leipzig Germany.Adolf Garland was a frequent visitor and provided Bader with cigarettes and schnaps during visits. Garland organized a flight for a British aircraft to fly into Germany and parachute a new set of tin legs for Bader without hostilities.Douglas Bader was an ace fighter pilot who flew with tin legs after a horrendous accident doing aircraft stunts over an airfield prior to WWII.This item is sold without papers, service records or manual/booklet.
