DELUXE GOLD-PLATED VINTAGE POCKETWATCH SLOT MACHINE MECHANICAL DEVICE DELUXE GOLDPLATED VINTAGE POCKET WATCH SLOT MACHINE MECHANICAL DEVICE FINE VINTAGE POCKET WATCH MECHANICAL SLOT MACHINE DELUXE GOLD-PLATED GUILLOCHE BACK GAMBLING DEVICE This is a vintage pocket watch size gambling device that appears to be a standard size pocket watch with a dial but with a single hand, a stem, and a watch chain top ring. These vintage devices are made with different faces for different gambling games. However, all are designed as a pocket gambling piece for a Sporting Gent or Lady to offer a spontaneous game of chance to his/her companion(s) anytime, anywhere, such as at a gambling hall, barroom, saloon or tavern, casino, leisure, or sporting event, perhaps for a drink or round of drinks. The dial face appears to be a typical watch face, but upon close inspection is a clear coating over a printed background with fine colors. The plastic domed watch crown is clear with extremely light surface scratches. The dial has an outside segmented border with 22 different fruits in groups of 2, 4, 6 or 10 fruit payouts like a slot machine, i.e., the 3 cherry symbols are grouped together and count as 2 payouts, the 3 lemon symbols count as 4 payouts, the 3 oranges count as 6 payouts, and the 3 single grapes count as a 10 payout. These novelty gambling pieces have a single application, i.e., you wind the stem, and the single hand rotates and will stop on its own showing the winner or payout. Wind this device like you would wind a pocket watch with 2-4 twists of the winding stem to turn the dial hand and let the hand spin until it stops. Some of these pieces have slightly different mechanisms affected by the stem. This piece has a stem that when pushed will stop the moving hand; when released, the hand resumes. With multiple players, each one would get to spin the hand and the highest denomination of the fruit value wins, or a tie would require a runoff. Theoretically, this could also be used with a layout for multiple bettors. These vintage devices were made in Germany, and I believe date to around the 1960’s. In overall fine condition. The base metal is gold-plated brass with slight pocket wear and handling on the outside dome ring. The top rotating attachment ring is designed to attach to a watch chain. Pocket watch size weighing 2.1 ounces or 62 grams, 2” in diameter x 1/2” thick.
