Black japanned iron base.Heavy nickel silver level cases.Revolving tube protector.Adjustable.Grooved base, machined at one operation.Lenght of the base 12 inches.Width of base 1 7/16 inches.(Almost indestructible quality!) About John Rabone and Sons History of the present company named today Hockley Abbey Works ( Whitmore Street, Birmingham. England).c1780 Michael Rabone carried on a business as rule maker at 8 Snow Hill, Birmingham. 1784 Company has its origins in Birmingham, as rule and tool makers. The business was continued by John Rabone and his (John’s) grandson, Eric Rabone. It worked under the name of John Rabone and Sons c1784-1953, becoming a public company in 1948.
