Here is a GREAT MACRO lens for just about ANY camera — as well as an ENLARGING lens for just about any enlarger! This is a Spiratone MACROTAR 35mm f3.5 lens — perfect for close-up, macro and micro photography with a variety of cameras and film formats. This MACROTAR lens can be used on any size film or digital camera with interchangeable lenses – from subminature / pocketable to large format sheet / panel cameras. Depending on your setup and the amount of extension that you have available, you can go from about 1:1 life size to about 30 times life size — or higher! The f3.5 maximum aperture produces a very bright image in the viewfinder / ground glass — for EASY focusing, but like all lenses, it is best to stop down to about f8 during the exposure for the best possible resolution. You might want to stop down even more to get more depth of field — which is pretty darn thin at high magnifications.In order to use this lens as a micro or macro lens you will need a couple of things. First, you will need a means of creating extension between the lens and your camera body. This can be a bellows or a set of extension tubes — or both! If your camera has a TTL (Through the Lens) meter, like most do, it will do the necessary exposure correction for you — or you can do it yourself. Secondly, you will also need a Leica adapter to place this lens on your extension device. Just about every camera company made Leica adapters — so you can put this lens on a Sony, Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Konica, Panasonic, whatever — even a Seagull (see last photos). It shows this 35mm lens on a Minolta bellows on a 35mm Seagull SLR (NOT INCLUDED) — with a simple Leica adapter (not included). You can even put this Vivitar lens on medium or large format camera — using a appropriate Leica adapter (NOT included). The next photo shows a similar set-up on a large format, 4×5″ camera.But this Spiratone 35mm f3.5 lens actually has TWO uses. It can also be used as an enlarging lens for subminiature formats from 35mm half-frame (18x24mm), down to Tessina (14x21mm), and 13x17mm (Kiev), as well as 12x17mm (super Minolta), 110 (Instamatic), 14x14mm (Hit), and 10×14 (16mm). The lens features a FAST f3.5 maximum aperture and click stops on each full f-stop to f16. It’s optimum magnification is 12X but it is perfectly at home with other magnifications. It weighs 3.0 ounces, diameter is 42mm, length is 20mm. It’s mounting thread is 39mm — Leica thread. Here are the lenses features that photographers find useful: 1. It incorporates dual, f-stop scales — one on each side of the lens for quicker, easier placement on the enlarger. 2. It also makes for easier f-stop selection on any lensboard. 3. The fast f3.5 aperture for easier and more accurate focusing — than slower f4.0 lenses. 4. It has a fully recessed design (see last photo) — so a recessed lens board is not needed, as with many short focal length enlarging lenses.5. This lens, up for auction — is a NEW SPIRATONE MACROTAR 35mm f3.5 lens. I checked it out for cleanliness and complete operation. The glass is perfect — no dust, fungus, separation, scratches, etc. Please examine the pictures for more detail. No scratches of any sort on the body. It is unused. The f-stop ring turns like new. No oil on the diaphragm. The detents are perfect and snap into place easily in the dark. It does NOT come with a lensboard, or a jam nut / locking ring. You’ll need to determine what you need for your enlarger — maybe you already have what you need. The lens comes with the original box. So with this lens, you are really getting TWO lenses in one — a great enlarging lens for the smaller film formats from half-frame down to Tessina down to 110 (12x17mm), 16mm (10x14mm) and even Minox. IN ADDITION, you get a fabulous macro/micro lens for superb details of tiny subjects for film or digital cameras of ANY format.
