Cet objet exceptionnel se compose d’un bassin en porcelaine tendre de Sèvres monté dans une structure de bronze dessinée dans le vocabulaire décoratif mythologique et plus précisément en référence à Bacchus. La base oblongue pose sur quatre pieds droits cannelés, le bandeau est mouluré et orné d’une frise de laurier rapportée. Marque de grande qualité, la base qui est aussi entretoise est couverte d’un élégant décor ciselé en rosace de feuilles d’acanthes et de pampres, centré dans un granité en piquetage… Quatre faunes portent le bassin sur un rebord en frise de feuilles et sont liés de lourdes guirlandes de fleurs et fruits. Les anses sont deux personnages différents, un faune et une femme de mer de la mythologie Antique. La couverture en bronze du rebord du vase est une sorte de lingotière finement et profondément ciselée de fruits et fleurs aussi. Le bassin en bleu céleste est décoré d’un cartouche sur chaque face représentant deux femmes entourées de putti et de fleurs. Le bleu céleste est recouvert d’une résille d’or de grande finesse. La marque de Sèvres en bleu sur couverte est assortie de la lettre date « O » indiquant l’année 1767. La suite de points est la marque du peintre Pierre Théodore Buteux (actif de 1765 à 1784) et la fleur de lys surmontant les deux L entrelacés indique une commande de la famille royale. Nous sommes dans un grand travail de marchand mercier qui a dessiné et fait créer le montage de ce bassin de toilette. Le montage d’objets usuels pour des raisons affectives se fit, on utilisa même des bourdalous. Chaque cartouche présente le portrait de deux femmes (ou d’une même femme). Ce sont des portraits réels et non de genre mais à l’époque ils étaient traités à la fois différemment pour la même personne et dans le même temps avec un air de famille (visage rond, grand yeux), il est donc difficile de déterminer quelle personne fut ici représentée et à la fin du règne de Louis XV. On pourra penser mais sans certitude aux jumelles Louise Elizabeth de France tôt disparue (1727, 1752) et Henriette de France , la création demandée à la Manufacture de Sèvres du bassin postérieur de quinze ans à la disparition d’une des jumelles ayant été un vœu de souvenir. Le montage de bronze lui-même est transition par son dessin tout en se rapprochant du vocabulaire décoratif Louis XVI, indiquant que le l’œuvre du marchand mercier put être commise aussi sous Louis XVI. La qualité tout autant exceptionnelle et charmante du travail du bronze est marquante de l’ancien régime, par exemple les rosaces de fixations du bassin sur le bronze sont en fleur dont le détail de ciselure est tel qu’il ne se voit qu’à la loupe. La finesse des ciselures profondes et vives est aussi une marque du grand siècle. Pour le bassin le charme de la pâte tendre se remarque entre autres par un léger « granité » de couleur et de surface du bleu céleste devenu plus uniforme ultérieurement sur pâte dure. Parfait pour ce type d’objet. Il manque simplement une rosace de fixation dans le réservoir du bassin. Ni manque ni accident, l’or moulu est parfait, logiquement refait au XIXème. Dimensions : hauteur : 39 cm , longueur : 36 cm , largeur bassin : 19,5 cm , base : 26 cm x 17 cm . * * * * BASIN IN SEVRES MOUNTED MID XVIIIth Or molu chiseled bronze, soft-paste porcelain. This exceptional object consists of a basin in soft Sèvres porcelain mounted in a bronze structure drawn in the mythological decorative vocabulary and more specifically in reference to Bacchus. The oblong base rests on four straight fluted feet, the headband is molded and decorated with an added laurel frieze. A high-quality brand, the base, which is also a spacer, is covered with an elegant chiseled decoration in a rosette of acanthus leaves and vine branches, centered in a picketed granite. Four fauns carry the basin on a rim in a frieze of leaves and are tied with heavy garlands of flowers and fruits. The handles are two different characters, a faun and a sea woman from Poseidonian mythology. The bronze covering of the rim of the vase is a sort of finely and deeply chiseled mold of fruits and flowers too. The celestial blue basin is decorated with a cartouche on each side representing two women surrounded by putti and flowers. The celestial blue is covered with a very fine gold mesh. The Sèvres mark in blue overglaze is accompanied by the date letter “O” indicating the year 1767. The series of dots is the mark of the painter Pierre Théodore Buteux (active from 1765 to 1784) and the fleur-de-lys surmounting the two intertwined Ls indicates an order from the royal family. We are in a great work of merchant haberdasher who designed and created the assembly of this toilet basin. The mounting of everyday objects for emotional reasons was done, we even used bourdaloues. Each cartouche presents the portrait of two women (or of the same woman). For the basin, the charm of the soft paste is noticeable among other things by a slight “granite” of color and surface of the celestial blue which later became more uniform on the hard paste.
