THE DEEPLY CUT GLASS CHANGES FROM LILAC, VIOLET, PURPLE, PINK AND BLUE, DEPENDING ON THE LIGHT, (ASSHOWN UNDER THE LED LIGHT AND AMBIENT HOME DAYLIGHT.) OUTDOORS IT HAS A PINK VIOLET HUE. PHOTOS 21-23 SHOW IT UNDER BLACK LIGHT, WHERE IT SHOWS DEEP MAGENTA FLUORESCENCE, SPECIFICALLY IN THE MID SECTION AND FINIAL ON THE TOP, LIKELY DUE TO FLUORESCING OXIDES SUCH AS SELENIUM. THIS RARE AND BEAUTIFUL PIECE IS VINTAGE, HAND CUT BOHEMIAN GLASS, PERHAPS UNSIGNED MOSER. “LEO MOSER, OF MOSER GLASS, WAS THE FIRST TO DEVELOP THE COMMERCIAL USE OF NEODYMIUM IN GLASS.NEODYMIUM GLASS WAS PRODUCED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD IN THE 20TH CENTURY, AFTER ALEXANDRITE CRYSTALS WERE DISCOVERED IN 1885 AND NEODYMIUM OXIDE (Nd2O3), WAS USED TO COLORIZE GLASS.” I’VE YET TO SEE A COVERED URN / POKAL, MADE WITH ALEXANDRITE GLASS, AND COVERED IN HAND CUT FACETS.THE OVERSIZED HEIGHT AND WEIGHT OF THIS PIECE, COMBINED WITH IT’S MESMERIZING COLOR CHANGING PROPERTIES, MAKES THIS SUPERB WORK OF ART A UNIQUE AND RARE EXAMPLE OF BOHEMIAN GLASS.
